Maire Treanor Workshops

Máire Treanor has been crocheting Clones Lace since she first came to Clones from Armagh in 1988. Clones Lace, an Irish Crochet, was named after the town where it was marketed in the nineteenth century, developing its own character since 1847. In 2002 Mercier Press published her book: ‘Clones Lace- the Story and Patterns of an Irish Crochet’, which was republished by Lacis in Berkeley California in 2010.  She writes: "Lacemaking has taken me to many wonderful places, such as various parts of Ireland and the States, Burano Island off the coast of Venice Italy and the home of Venetian Needlepoint lace, Brittany France, where an Irish Crochet school was established in 1902 and Kyiv, Ukraine, where there is a renewed interest in Irish Crochet. I love to pass on this wonderful craft to others and teach it at workshops in all of these places and especially in Clones, my source of inspiration, ensuring another generation of Clones Lace makers." The Clones Lace Summer Workshop will celebrate its 22nd year this summer.
